Patricia Pinto PP is a Biotechnology Engineering with a PhD in Molecular Biology, finished in 2006, carried out between the University of Algarve, Portugal and Cardiff University, UK. She is a PhD member of the Comparative Endocrinology and Integrative Biology (CEIB) of the Centre of Marine Sciences (CCMAR) since 2006 and is an auxiliary researcher at the University of Algarve since 2018. Her work focus on investigating the endocrine regulation and environmental disruption of several aspects of fish physiology and the interactions with their microbiomes and environment. For that, she uses in vitro / in vivo experimentation with fish and bioinformatics associated with different Omics technologies, with expertise acquired through periods of collaborative research in research centres or companies in several European countries and in Japan.
She was the principal investigator of two national projects related to endocrine disruption (E2SCALE) and fish reproduction (GALPUB) and is currently integrated in 3 large EU projects (e.g. H2020 PerformFish) that join academics with Aquaculture, Biotechnology and Food industries. She published 35 articles in international journals in the fields of Endocrinology, Genomics, Immunology, Toxicology and Food Engineering. She has supervised post-docs, PhD, MSc and undergraduate students and has been active in the organization of scientific conferences, seminars, workshops and activities of science dissemination / science literacy promotion for schools and the general public. She collaborates in teaching activities at the University of Algarve (at BSc and MSc levels) since 2005 and currently teaches Metagenomics / Marine Genomics to the International MSc in Marine Biological Resources (IMBRSea).
